Opinion: Why Sydney Ireland's Liberalism Can't Exist Within the Boy Scouts

As an experienced scout in today's world, we are ridiculed by the left with anything from letting girls into the main Boy Scout branch to a President not attending the most important national scouting event.

When Syndey Ireland sought to become a Boy Scout she did so in a manner that would threaten its core values. Explicitly violating a vital component of the scout law: being courteous. There are many other organizations that would accept her, such as Sea Scouts, Venture Scouts, and Girl Scouts just to name a few. If Girl Scouting wasn't enough for her, she could have pushed for more outdoor activities and merits to be installed within the curriculum the GSA, seek high adventure in the realms of Venture Scouting, or explore the open waters in Sea Scouting. These other branches of scouting do basically the same thing as the BSA. She doesn't need to be an antagonist to the scouting community, but she could have just done what you can to participate, but be respectful to the sacred Scouting tradition. Her main arguments center around:

"I am determined to be an Eagle Scout. It isn’t just a hobby, it's access to some of the best leadership training there is. According to the BSA, over half of all astronauts were involved in Scouting and 16.3% of West Point cadets are Eagle Scouts."

The Scouting Organization is committed to keeping tradition, but is also extremely accepting in its various branches.

First of all, that statistic is bloated. West Point claims that 10% of its cadets are Eagle Scouts or Gold Award recipients, Gold Awards being the Eagle's parallel in Girl Scouting. Sydney would have received the same exceptional leadership of scouting in the GSA just the same.

George W. Bush is greeted by tens of thousands of scouts in 2005 during the Boy Scout National Jamboree. Breaking a long-standing tradition of presidential visits, former President Obama skipped the event.

Next, this reveals that the leftist ideals found in scouting are rare and uncommon, but true leftist cultured people are virtually nonexistent in the BSA because they revolt in the merit of teaching boys how to be boys and men. We use guns, knives, bows, and other "scary" tools to practice and pass time. We have even received protests for our most important event, National Jamboree. Last Jambo Mr. Obama refused to attend and then received many sweet sounds of true American Boy Scouts using their Constitutional rights to simply and magnificently boo the former Commander and Chief. We only hope that President Trump will undo the disrespect his predecessor has concocted.
