Republicans Against Child Sexual Exploitation

“Man down, I repeat, Man down!” “Stand your position.” The basics of war is to follow the pre-established procedure. If anything goes out of planned, you stand position, period. Now, during war the tragedies soldiers have to face are uncountable and maybe impossible to list, so before I forget, ‘thank you for your services!”. But was not this article about child exploitation? Well, I want you to relate to the fact that talking about ways to change legislation on human trafficking and child exploitation is somewhat like a war.

In the beginning of last week, U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) and associates decided to take a turn to address the ‘PROTECT Our Children Act’. The discussion happened on Friday 16th, at the Children’s Assessment Center in Houston. There is no official version of what happened at the meeting but we should be aware of the goals of the act.

The importance of the ‘PROTECT Our Children Act’, lies in the reauthorization of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Program. The ICAC is a national network of 61 coordinated task forces representing 3,500 federal, state, and local law enforcement and prosecutorial agencies that combat child exploitation across the country. More importantly than the size of the program is the message it sends to the nation; a message of hope to a future for the families that are daily affected by such crimes.

U.S. Senators Dean Heller (R-NV) was an original co-sponsor of the legislation and has the support of several organizations throughout the country, including the National Children’s Alliance and the National Criminal Justice Association.

At last, this bill is not an attempt to contradict liberals, far from it. We can all agree that sex is a right, but we have to come to terms that sex is a powerful tool and a government that cares for its people has to deliver efforts to protect them from unwanted obscenity. It is not a question between the “right choice” or the “easy choice”, it is about the “healthy choice”.

Therefore, let’s acknowledge and support Senators Heller and Cornyn as they are on the pursuit of a brighter future to all American children.
