LOCAL: Tampa Conservative Nut Team Helps Local Community

The common stereotype of conservatives painted by the media and liberals:

Racist, selfish, 'red-neck', ignorant, uneducated, deplorable bigots.

The GOP is often times ridiculed with allegations of maintaining Jim Crow laws, a barely propped up organization built for only rich, white, old men, and attempts to pull away "closet" Republicans by forcing anyone that is a minority or young to believe that they HAVE to be democratic and liberal.

The Conservative Nut works to prove them wrong. Our organization maintains conservative ideals and promotes traditional American ideals. Instead of blatantly labeling the other side of the aisle with endless accusations of discrimination and scrutiny, we jumped out of our ivory tower institutions (all holier than thou), dropped our books by our post-modernist armchair philosophers, and got to work.

Over the course of two days, members of the Conservative Nut team, led by Podcast director and Tampa Teenage Republican Society Secretary John Flynn, worked on a project to better their community.

The project entailed restoring a playground at a local Catholic Church/School, designing and constructing a tire-dome, assembling soccer goals to make a soccer field, installing a blackboard, and putting together a sound board. The project aims to better the outdoor conditions for the Kindergarten children that attend the school, and ended up clocking more than 60+ man-hours.

Construction of the dome required drilling each tire in a specific location, staking spiral ground anchors in every base position, connecting the structure with a washer/bolt/nut assembly, and installing water-proof sealing with drainage systems.

"I really think the kids will love it [The Tire Dome]!" Mark Awad, a staff member, would exclaim as he jumped onto the finished creation, marveling at the work he had help complete.

The completed blackboard is also the exact one pictured in the cover of this article, left with a positive message for the children when they return to see the wonderful surprise.

With the end to a hard day's work, this project is finished, but The Conservative Nut has just started. With its goal of helping the community and breaking down the stigma that has been associated with "Republican", or "Conservative", the Tampa-based staff is ready to reach out and make a positive difference.
